HIGH VS. LOW TRUCKS
The Battle Continues
With our large selection of skateboard trucks, you have probably seen that many models are available in two heights, "high" or "low". If you're wondering what this really means for your skating, Skate Warehouse is here to help you make a decision on high vs. low trucks. All in all it comes down to how and what you like to skate, and how you like your board to feel. That's why we're here - to help you make a more informed choice on your next set of trucks!
The Advantages of High Trucks
- More wheel clearance - this means you can skate larger sized wheels and looser trucks before getting wheelbite.
- High trucks are generally available in wider sizes for bigger boards
- Tighter turning radius
You might prefer high trucks if:
- You skate loose trucks and/or wheels 54mm or larger
- You skate a board 8.1" or wider
- You skate transition and/or gaps
The Advantages of Low Trucks
- Lower center of gravity - this makes for a more stable board with quicker pop.
- Low trucks are generally lighter than their taller counterparts because less material is used to produce a lower truck.
- More responsive
You might prefer low trucks if:
- You skate wheels 53mm or smaller
- You skate boards 8.0" or smaller
- You do more technical skating - ledges, rails, manual pads, flip tricks
HIGH OR LOW: RECAP
To sum it all up - if you skate a bigger board, bigger wheels and/or loose trucks give high trucks a go. You may benefit from the increased clearance and tighter turning radius. If you like a smaller, lighter setup for more technical skating, low trucks might be the choice for you. Of course these suggestions are just that, one of the greatest aspects of skating is trying new things to find what works for you.
