BONES BRIGADE REISSUE DECKS
30 Years in the Making
In the 1980's, the Bones Brigade were the undisputed kings of Skateboarding. Imagine today if you took your six favorite skaters and put them on one dream team. That was basically Bones Brigade. Under George Powell and Stacy Peralta's guidance, Powell-Peralta would make some of the most influential videos and mainstay graphics of their time and by the mid 1980's Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Rodney Mullen, Tommy Guerrero, and Mike McGill were the best of their respected categories. Lucky for us, the Bones Brigade is back, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their legendary The Search For Animal Chin video with some of their best reissues yet.
Steve Caballero
The Steve Caballero Chinese Dragon deck was first introduced during the filming for Animal Chin as an updated version of his standard dragon deck. The Chinese Dragon became a cherished graphic in the late '80s and is still highly sought after. Cab's impact on skating is still felt today, as he continues to ride for Powell, has his signature Vans Half Cab Shoe, and is the creator of the Caballerial (fakie backside 360 ollie).
Tommy Guerrero
Way before the GX1000 guys were terrorizing San Francisco, Tommy Guerrero was blazing through the avenues, pushing how far and fast you can go. Guerrero could be considered the first legitimate street skater, turning pro in 1985. His flaming dagger deck reigned supreme in 1980's and his presence in skateboarding is still felt today as a Co-Founder of Real Skateboards.
Tony Hawk
There's no doubt that Tony Hawk is the biggest name ever in skateboarding. His influence has spanned every generation from the 1980's on and his Hawk Skull deck is probably the most recognizable Powell Peralta deck of all time. Hawk's new reissue is based on his updated "bottlenose" shape that came out in 1987 and some of his best moments of the 1980's were captured with this very graphic. Tony Hawk continues to push himself skating while running his company Birdhouse Skateboards.
30 Years of Animal Chin
Mike McGill
Mike McGill was an absolute game changer, unleashing the McTwist (540 mute grab) in 1984. Since then, the McTwist has been a staple trick in vert and McGill's Skull and Sword deck is synonymous with the most famous trick of the 1980's. Mike McGill is still a part of skateboarding running McGill's Skateshop in Encinitas, California.
Rodney Mullen
Next time you go to your local park to work on 360 flips, take a moment to thank Rodney Mullen, who laid down the foundation for tricks like this 35 years ago. During the early '80's Rodney was unknowingly creating the backbone of modern skateboarding, inventing kickflips, heelflips, and impossibles just to name a few. His Skull and Crown graphic is a nod to his innovation as the king of freestyle. Rodney currently rides for Almost Skateboards, Tensor and Bones Wheels.
Lance Mountain
Everyone's favorite goofball, Lance Mountain made skateboarding a little less serious and a little more fun. His opening part in the very first skateboard video, The Bones Brigade Video Show, set the standard for what was to come. In 1985 Powell unleashed Lance's Future Primitive model as a true standout, shying away from the skull oriented Powell graphics of the time. Lance is still putting out quality video parts while riding for Flip, Independent, and Nike SB.
