Mike McGill

Born September 2nd, 1964 in Brooklyn, NY, Mike McGill is one of the great legends of skateboarding. After his family moved to Florida, McGill started skating at the young age of 10 with his very first board, a fiberglass flat board with urethane Trickway wheels. Quickly gaining attention from several skate contests, McGill was recommended to Stacy Peralta, coach of Bones Brigade, by Alan "Olie" Gelfand and Tim Scroggs. After proving himself in contest skating he turned pro and joined the Bones Brigade team in 1980 with the likes of Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Rodney Mullen, and Steve Caballero. Most notably known for inventing the McTwist (540-degree aerial, grabbing mute) on a wooden halfpipe at a Swedish skatepark in 1984. McGill has an extensive competition career of four 1st place wins in over +30 events. Post Bones Brigade McGill has been included in Beastie Boys song lyrics and stunt doubled for actors such as Bruce Willis, Mark Wahlberg, and Christian Slater. Inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame in 2017, McGill continues to skate to this day and you can find him at his skate shop in Encinitas, California 'McGills Skateshop'.
